‘Finding Fire Island’: The New Docu-Podcast With Joel Kim Booster, Margaret Cho, Matt Rogers and More

"Finding Fire Island" is set to make its debut on July 6 via the Broadway Podcast Network.

This docu-podcast series explores the transformation of Fire Island, a once sleepy 19th-century beach town, into a vibrant queer haven and a cultural touchstone for artists and the New York City theater community. Unlike many queer history narratives centered around loss and disappearance, Fire Island has thrived as a stunning fantasy world.

The series features Joel Kim Booster, Margaret Cho, Matt Rogers, DJ Lina Bradford, Paul Rudnick, Brian Moylan, Zach Stafford, Ben Rimalower, and Cherry Grove legends Bob "Rose" Levine and Thom "Panzi" Hansen.

"Finding Fire Island" takes listeners on a journey behind the scenes, unveiling the mystique, legends, and lore of the LGBTQ+ communities in Cherry Grove and The Pines from the 1950s to the present day.

Created and executive produced by Jess Rothschild, a native New Yorker, the series brings a unique perspective as one of the rare pieces of media about Fire Island from a woman's point of view. Rothschild's passion for the history and culture of Cherry Grove and The Pines has driven her to collect interviews with notable figures, past and present, on Fire Island.

"Finding Fire Island" takes listeners on a journey behind the scenes, unveiling the mystique, legends, and lore of the LGBTQ+ communities in Cherry Grove and The Pines from the 1950s to the present day,” said Matt Rogers.

“It’s important to create art about Fire Island which really memorializes the history and the important figures. There are so many stories to tell from the island as this legendary queer mecca,” added Margaret Cho.

Starting July 6, listeners can tune in to "Finding Fire Island" on BPN.FM or any podcast platform. The Broadway Podcast Network, known as the premier digital storytelling destination for theater and performing arts enthusiasts worldwide, offers a perfect home for this remarkable series.
