Every Gay Bar in NYC
Hell's Kitchen + West Village + Chelsea + East Village + Harlem + Brooklyn
Is there a cover charge at the bars? Is it expensive?
Usually, the answer is no. There's no cover fee in most of the LGBTQ+ bars and clubs in New York City. The majority of this list does not charge any fee upon entrance. Even when they do, it's usually less than 10 dollars. We do save money by not going to the straight-classic parties in this town.
What is the best neighborhood for partying in New York?
It depends on what you are up to. Hell's Kitchen has show-stopping drag queen performances and multiple options for a night out, but so does West Village or Bushwick and Williamsburg in Brooklyn. If you're traveling, our advice is to go one night to each one of these neighborhoods and try different parties on the same night - like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan used to do back in the day.
Do they really check your ID?
Yes! You need to be 21+ to enjoy the party, following the law of the United States. And don't try to use fake IDs! If you are younger, you can always go to a Drag Brunch.
Why do I need to tip bartenders and drag queens?
In New York, tips count towards wages for people working in the service industry. The tip is usually between 18% and 20% of the total bill for servers and bartenders. And drag queens have one rule only: if you see something you like, you tip! Tipping is not mandatory, but if you are not tipping, there is a high chance you are an a**hole.
How do I pay for my drinks?
Not every New York bar accepts credit cards, so always check their policy before going. You might need to stop by an ATM to get some cash. When they do accept credit card, then you have two options: 1 - Keep your tab open through the night by giving your card and ID to the bartender and paying before leaving (If you're from outside the United States, I know this sounds weird but you can trust), or 2 - Close the tab and pay for your drinks right away.
Last warnings: Don’t fall asleep on the train! If you are going to drink, don’t drive! And be nice to people!
