Surprise appearances at NYC gay bars

Jennifer Lawrence, Adele, Madonna, Dua Lipa

New York City has the best LGBTQ+ bars in the world, and even celebrities know that. Adele, Jennifer Lawrence, Dua Lipa, Madonna, Taylor Swift, and Celine Dion have enjoyed at least one night at NYC's hottest clubs. And trust me, there's nothing like a surprise appearance of a diva pop in a gay club!

The 38 Best LGBTQ+ Bars in New York City

Just close your eyes for one second and imagine the situation. You decided to have a few drinks at your favorite bar in West Village after a long week. The place is crowded, drag queens are lip-syncing on the stage, and twinks are dancing. A typical queer night in New York City. Then, you're ordering your third gin and tonic when suddenly everybody around starts to get agitated. "What the f* is going on in here on this day?" you ask yourself. When you look around searching for answers, there they are: a recently divorced Adele and her best friend, Jennifer Lawrence, going crazy. Wouldn't you give your two front teeth to have been there? I would.

Anyway, while I wasn't lucky enough to be there for any of these occasions, I decided to collect some special appearances in New York queer night and list them here, so we can all suffer from FOMO collectively.

Dua Lipa

The Greenwich Village bar Playhouse was barely opened when it became news, thanks to Dua Lipa, the hitmaker of the decade. The British singer made a surprise appearance at the bar and danced the night away. Her video with writer Jon Ali went viral on social media immediately.

On the same night, Dua also showed some respect to The Pussycat Dolls' anthem Don't Cha.

Taylor Swift

In June 2019, Taylor Swift celebrated Pride with a surprise performance at Stonewall Inn. On a Friday night! Can you imagine how busy that place was? New York actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson hosted the event, and she sang her iconic hit Shake it Off for the crowd.

Celine Dion

The Lips Drag Queen Show Palace Restaurant & Bar was hosting a Celine-themed karaoke contest when Celine Dion herself appeared onstage. Can you believe it? The singer was promoting the album Courage and interacted with the queens hosting the show.

Adele and Jennifer Lawrence

Singer Adele and Jennifer Lawrence appeared onstage at Pieces Bar, in West Village, without any warning. Brita Filter, who was hosting a party that night, brought both to the stage and made them play a drinking game. The videos of the night are pure gold!

"Jennifer, this isn't the Hunger Games."

Madonna

If you know anything about Madonna's career, you know how much she loves New York! The queen of pop has made a few surprise appearances at gay bars over the decades, but here are two of them.

In 2019, Madonna showed up at the iconic Stonewall Inn where she gave a speech about the LGBTQ movement.

In 2021, the queen appeared at The Standard to celebrate Pride.

She was serving the crowd!

Tom Daley

He might not be a diva pop, but Tom Daley certainly is a gay icon! The drag queen Jasmine Rice did not miss the opportunity and brought the British athlete to the stage. Now this moment is forever saved on the internet!
